More Falcom news! In an official press release by Falcom, the company has revealed that first pressing limited editions of their PSP fighting spin-off title, Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga, are set to include a bonus package called “Falcom Collective Music Files” which will include three parts. First is the Ys. vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga Original Soundtrack, which will be two discs and include the entire original soundtrack plus newly arranged tracks. Next is Falcom Best Sound Collection -ALL in ALL-, a compilation album of various tracks that Falcom has chosen from over 4,000 of their game’s BGMs. Finally we have the Collective Music Files special booklet, which will include various information about Ys. vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga and other famous Falcom titles.
Not a bad bonus package. As Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga is a fighting game based on Falcom’s two most successful series, we can assume there will be lots of fast-paced arranges of our favorite themes from both games and hopefully some new music as well. Veteran Falcom music collectors probably won’t be too excited about the compilation album, but it’s a great opportunity for newer Falcom fans to get a taste of the company’s other titles. I’m curious what they’ll include this time (it’s like their 238743th, right?). Perhaps the booklet will offer some information about the arrangements of the soundtrack from Sound Team jdk. Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga is scheduled to release in Japan on July, 29th 2010.

At the risk of seeming unprofessional and squee-face…
DYSSIDIA! …aaaawwwwesome.
Okay, I’m calm now. I’d be willing to bet we’ll get an official inclusion that sweet-as ‘Ernst’ from the Ys SEVEN Mini-album. You can probably speculate on which characters will be in and from there some of the arrangements. Termination, Last Moment in the Dark…The Boy’s Got Wings?…The Strongest Foe?…Scias?…oh man.
and for Sora no Kiseki? Enormous Fright, Merciless Savior, Greatest Treasure Set Loose?…it will, now I think about it, be a very interesting soundtrack — the two series have quite distinct musical styles befitting their very different tones.
…the big question is will the black sheep, Ys V, get included? Hmm.
I’ve never played a single Falcom game, but I own a lot of their awesome soundtracks! The songs I enjoy the most are their rocking tunes like ‘To Make The End Of Battle’, ‘Far Release Of The West Ocean’, ‘Genesis Beyond The Beginning’, ‘Varestine Castle’ and ‘Silver Will’.
I bet there’ll be plenty of those on this soundtrack, so I’m sure this this will find it’s way into my CD collection 🙂
First a concert, now this. Awesome news.
Considering Olha will be a playable character, I’m more interested in the very probable inclusions of arranges of her and other secondary characters’ themes.
Falcom is an incredibly generous company. Sounds awesome!
Without wishing to disespect any of the other contributors, Justin’s the most important one! Falcom rocks. Falcom news rocks. God I hope they release VM Japan on PSP someday – so they can arrange some of the greatest VGM (or just M, for that matter) I have ever heard.
Can’t speak for the rest of the crew, jdkluv, but I’m happy to agree that Justin’s jdk insights are what brought me to the site to start with. I’m an Ys fan first and foremost, but Jindo’s work on the Sora no Kiseki games is a very close second in my book.
I concur with Wes on the urge to nearly go all Falcom fanboy at hearing about these pack-in goodies.
Sure, Falcom has remixed their tracks from the Y’s franchise to death, (at one point, I believe it was claimed that Falcom games had more commercial remixes than even the Final Fantasy series) but there’s always good things to be heard.
The one track I’d love to hear remixed, would be Overdosing Heavenly Bliss from Sora no Kiseki the 3rd. The JDK Bank arrange of it was off the hook and I still look towards that track as one of my all time favorite boss fight tracks.

Looks like 8 a side. Also, Kusao Takeshi reprising his role as the otherwise reticent Adol is just awesome. There’s a neat little interview of him there too — of which I understand only a tiny bit. This is one site to definitely keep an eye on…
I’m on Falcom’s mailing list and follow them on Twitter which I suppose is better than F5’ing the site every other day!
There’s also information about a series of 4koma (gag comics) for Ys vs. Sora. I’m looking forward to that as well as the 8th chapter of the official Sora no Kiseki manga.
@Chris: True, but I’m terribly selective in my oldschool habits sometimes. I get excited at seeing site updates without being told about them first, and although I try to immerse myself in Falcom-everything, I want to ‘prolong the magic’ as much as I can. Guess that’s why I see myself as a reviewer/feature writer more than a news-hound. 😉
It also just occured to me that the concert follows the game’s release, which means that the set might be quite different to what we’ve come to expect from a JDK concert…
