I am a huge fan of Yuki Kajiura’s work on the Xenosaga series, although I admit I’m not overly familiar with her expansive credits in the anime industry. Back in 2007, Kajiura went on a hunt for some talented singers for her projects, creating Kalafina. Since then, the group has gone on to release a number of charting singles, and back in March, they released their first studio album in Japan, Seventh Heaven.
Well, we have some good news for Kalafina’s US fans, as Seventh Heaven is now available on iTunes, Napster, and other digital outlets. Even more, Kalafina will be performing and taking part in an autograph session at the Anime Boston convention later this month, so we’ll be sure to have more coverage of the group in the coming weeks. While there hasn’t been an announcement regarding a physical release of Seventh Heaven in the United States, it’s great that Sony is thinking of Kalafina’s Western audience.
Have you been following Yuki Kajiura’s Kalafina project? Do you have a favorite single from the group, and are you interested in seeing them live in Boston later this month?

I’m not sure this’ll do as well as its backers would hope for since VGM and anime soundtracks tend to do poorly in general. Couple with that the fact that only the anime community has heard of Kalafina/Kajiura and you’ve got a recipe for low sales in general.
That said, Kajiura’s anime works are rather stellar. I’d definitely recommend giving Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles a shot as well as the OSTs for Mai HiME and Le Portrait de Petite Cossette.
That’s okay though, right? It’s meant to be a niche thing, and the fact that it’s looking at a digital-only release means the overhead is quite low. I doubt the sales will be Earth-shattering, but it’s still cool for fans in the US.
I like the cover.
@Jayson
Yeah, if that means not having to import their CDs and pay massive shipping costs, all the better. I really should watch the series that most of these songs come from. Kara no Kyoukai was supposedly really awesome.
I’ve been following their work since Kara no Kyoukai, and I like how things like their album on iTunes is working out. My favorite song from them is ARIA. I won’t be able to see them in person though.
I only heard one song I really liked by them.
I’ve heard some of Kajura’s work before. Liked some. Didn’t like others.
Haha, is this a recurring theme? “Like some. Didn’t like others.” Second post in 30 minutes that you’ve said that. ;D
Well, it just so happens Kajiura has done some work I don’t particularly care about.. Or maybe I don’t know what I like. It’s kind of like. some stuff I like, but I’m disappointed that it all isn’t as awesome.
