Chris Lincoln, a ROM hacker who created a very famous hack of Castlevania called Castlevania: Chorus of Mysteries recently revealed what he’s been up to lately on the hacking front, and it’s quite impressive stuff he showed us. It’s still expansions on the Castlevania series on NES, but the technical achievements are far from anything seen before. The first game, called Cadence of Agony is a Metroidvania game running on the NES hardware. A complete open end maze, 4 playable characters, tons of original graphics and an all new soundtrack is what has been promised so far, and the work put into making that possible has taken 2 years so far, just to get the game running properly.
The second game is Simon’s Quest Remake, and the title pretty much tells it all. Tuned up graphics, new challenges and a reworked soundtrack is gonna make this classic game even more playable, and hopefully silence the filthy mouths of the haters, who all take AVGN too seriously and never actually played the original most likely.
The Cadence of Agony and Simon’s Quest Remake WIP soundtracks have been posted in NSF format, you can download them here.
