  We mentioned a few weeks back that Square Enix was preparing a trio of albums to commemorate Fuji TV’s 2011 United States of Odaiba event. These included previews of the upcoming SQ Chips album and Final Fantasy Type-0 soundtrack as well as a sound effects collection CD. I was excited for all three, and the 500 Yen asking price made them an affordable treat for anyone who could make it out to the event.

  So what do they offer? While you’ll be able to enjoy SQ Chips and Final Fantasy Type-0 in their entirety in a matter of months, the Square Enix Sound Effect Collection is a release that is unique to the event.

  Okay, so there’s also a 4-minute track containing the in-game music, but still, come on! We poked fun at the PAC-MAN Game Sound Effects release a couple months ago, but they apparently must have made some money with it given that they’re going the same route with Mappy.

  In other news, they’ve also uploaded the Dragon Spirit soundtrack to iTunes, which kicks some serious ass. Those at MAGFest this year heard virt belt out his own 80s-style arrangement of the first stage theme from the game. I highly recommend supporting this release, and hey, if sound effects are your thing, get Mappy for the low, low price of $2.99 while you’re at it.

  I’m still shocked that Dead Space is coming to the Wii. Last year we had a lengthy and interesting chat with Don Veca, Audio Director for the original Dead Space, which turned up all sorts of information about the proprietary sound system they created for the game and some of the technical details of what Dead Space was capable of. With that, I thought it’d be fun to ask about what they were able to accomplish on the Wii.

  Overall, it looks like this game is going to sound amazing. While I’ve played it a few times at various events and conventions, background noise has often interfered with my ability to get fully immersed, and even though there isn’t any new music, per se, I’m looking forward to hearing it in a more static format as opposed to the free-range style that we heard in the original game.
