L’Orcheste De Jeux Video’s Next Concert Features Only Indie Game Music!

Based in Montreal, L’Orchestre de Jeux Vidéo has been around since 2008. They are a non-profit organization, dedicated to video game music. Their goal has been to give their musicians the ability to play in a rich musical environment and also to make symphonic music more accessible to general public. Their next concert is on June, 16, 2018 and dedicated solely to indie game music. The concert will also feature music by composer Antoine Vachon from his soundtrack to Mages of Mystralia, which we reviewed last year.

For the first time in its history, the OJV invites you, on June 16th, to a concert entirely dedicated to the music of independent video games! A unique opportunity to come and hear favorite games such as Shovel Knight, Undertale and Ori and the Blind Forest, Yooka Laylee … and discover new ones! Indie games have a special place in the heart of the OJV. Propelled by the passion of the studio’s employees and offering immersive environments that are often surprising, they are jewels to discover!

The program for the evening will include music from: Ark: Survival Evolved, Ori and the Blind Forest, Super Meat Boy, Cold blood, Owlboy, Shovel Knight, Mages of Mystralia, Don’t Starve, Journey, Cuphead and Undertale.

They also have tickets on sale for their June 2019 concert Hero of the Past dedicated to the music of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

The newest DLC for retro-platformer Shovel Knight, titled Specter of Torment where you take control of the ghoulish Specter Knight to traverse the game and new areas of the original campaign, has been out for Switch for a few weeks now and just dropped for PC/Steam. As such, the DLC’s soundtrack by the game’s composer Jake Kaufman has also released for the low price of whatever you want!

Specter of Torment nearly doubles the OST track list of the game’s previous DLC, Plague of Shadows, boasting 25 tracks featuring both new original tracks as well as macabre-tinged arrangements of previous Shovel Knight tunes. Kaufman worked on the Specter tracks almost exclusively during regular Twitch streaming, giving avid fans a preview of what was in store for the devilish DLC.

For those waiting on Shovel Knight releasing to vinyl and other physical licensed formats, you’re wait is over. Brave Wave Productions have officially announced that pre-orders for the Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack are going live today!

Our latest Generation Series release, GS-002 Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack will be available to pre-order today at our new merch store:

The album features new illustrations by the legendary Hitoshi Ariga, artist of such series as Mega Man and Pokémon.

Shovel Knight Will Be Getting a Vinyl Release This Fall

It seems vinyl has completely made it’s resurgence into video game music a solid staple. Brave Wave Productions has announced that Shovel Knight fans can expect to see a 2xLP release of its soundtrack later this fall.

Coming this autumn, our release of Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack has been specially mastered for vinyl, under supervision and with final approval from original composers Jake Kaufman and Manami Matsumae. This edition will include the full soundtrack on two discs, with new artwork (not pictured) by Mega Man and Pokémon illustrator Hitoshi Ariga, as well as a composer interview and various series artworks.

A preorder date has yet to be announced for the release, but fans who wish to capitalize on the chance to pick up the fantastic soundtrack on vinyl should subscribe to Brave Wave’s mailing list in order to keep abreast of new news regarding timeframes, and also check back with us here at OSV as we’ll be sure to keep you informed.

Coinciding with the release of the Plague of Shadows DLC for Shovel Knight, Jake “Virt” Kaufman has released the expansion’s soundtrack on his Bandcamp page. While much of the Plague of Shadows expansion has you exploring previous stages from the main game, there are a few extra areas, characters, and of course new pieces of music.

Many of the new music tracks written for Plague of Shadows are based on the Plague Knight theme, which was composed by Manami Matsumae for the original Shovel Knight soundtrack. This fourteen track album includes music written for the expansion and some extra goodies, including the expansion’s orchestral trailer music, a duet with Jeff Ball and Kaufman, and a song “ALCHEMY” that Kaufman wrote with Dale North.

As with the original Shovel Knight OST, the Plague of Shadows OST is pay-what-you-want. You can grab the Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows OST on Jake Kaufman’s Bandcamp page, and be sure to pick up the original Shovel Knight OST, if you haven’t already.

As originally reported on, the fantastic soundtrack for Shovel Knight by Jake “Virt” Kaufman (with contribution’s by Mega Man composer Manami Matsumae) has been out and available for download at a Pay-What-You-Want price on Bandcamp for a little while now. The the music, as well as the game itself, has been described by most as both a a love letter to the NES and Genesis-era of video games, though it’s probably more appropriate to say the music and game are faithful evolutions of the retro-gaming genre. The inspirations from popular past franchises is evident in every nook and cranny of the sidescrolling platformer’s construction, but it does well enough on its own that the term “cookie-cutter” would not be giving the game enough credit, nor the music.

And there is a significant amount of music, and an additional album of arranged music by various artists on top of the original soundtrack’s ensemble as well. Shovel Knight may have had those who pledged to the game’s Kickstarter biting their nails in anticipation, but it certainly did good on its promise to deliver….in spades! (sorry, I’ll keep the puns to a minimum) Today, I’ll finally be focusing on Strike the Earth! Shovel Knight Arranged.

Shovel Knight OST Out on Bandcamp and it’s Awesome

If you haven’t heard, the soundtrack to Shovel Knight, one of the most anticipated games to come out of Kickstarter in the past year, has officially been released on composer Jake “Virt” Kaufman’s Bandcamp. Along for the ride is also a special arrangement album featuring several of the game’s tunes done by several artists in the arrangement scene.

They’re good. Really good. Currently-top-on-Bandcamp good. And at a “Name-Your-Price” dollar amount to get both albums, you have no reason not to get them. And to take it a step further, Kaufman has even released the .NSF original files for anybody to has a compatible player to enjoy!

We’ll no doubt be doing an extensive review of the albums in the near future, but until then, be sure to grab them and enjoy the awesome.
