  This week I am looking back at the music of three games I played on the Sega Dreamcast, one of my favorite consoles and *SPOILER ALERT* one of the winners of Wired’s Video Game Console Wars which had me floored in laughter and a huge grin on my face.

  The music of these games are at all from different ranges of the sound spectrum.  The first soundtrack is beautiful, awe inspiring, and epic in scope and a great score by two composers Tim Follin and Attila Heger.  The second is much darker and has a unique creepy, abandoned carnival grounds sound composed by the late Betrand Eluerd.   The third is an cover EP album by Stemage of Noriyuki Iwadare’s music from a masterpiece of a JRPG which is coming soon in remastered form on Steam!

  These are my thoughts of the soundtracks to Ecco The Dolphin: Defender of the Future, Evil Twin: Cyprien’s Chronicles and Stemage’s Frets of Valmar: Grandia II .

  You may recall that we were very impressed with Samba de Amigo on the E3 show floor.  SEGA has finally dropped the release date and the complete song list, including the first set of songs that will be available via the Pay-to-Play service on the Wii. We should expect the game and the first set of downloadable tracks to hit the US on September 19 and 23, respectively.

  A large number of tracks will return from the original Dreamcast version of Samba as well as a long list of new tracks as well.  Some of the newcomers include “Oye Como Va” by Santana (which always reminds me of Donkey Konga), “Low Rider” by War, and “Do it Well” by Jennifer Lopez. One of the downloadable tracks even includes “I Want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow. We’ll be sure to follow this one as the release date approaches.

  Are you looking forward to shaking it to “I Want Candy” next month?  Still with me in hoping for some Sonic music in the future to shake it to?

  Hey now, I’m not saying it’s going to happen. However, I had the chance to play some Samba de Amigo yesterday and have to tell you it’s a lot of fun. Unfortunately the maraca peripherals that have been hinted at were not shown, but I still found myself fully enjoying the experience.

  So why the talk of Sonic the Hedgehog? Well, Samba is going to be one of the first games on the Wii to feature downloadable content, so I naturally asked, “How about a SEGA classics pack?,” to which I received a brief pause before, “That’s a great idea! Doing this to Green Hill Zone or something like that… I’ll have to take this back to the team!” He was likely just humoring me, but we can keep dreaming, right? Keep your fingers crossed!
