  Nintendo’s press conference has come to a close, and it’s looking like 2010 and even 2011 are going to be big years for Nintendo fans. While half of the conference was dominated by the 3DS (which also had some amazing game announcements), the Wii and DS are getting a lot of love this year.

  Nearly every classic Nintendo franchise was covered, from the upcoming Metroid: Other M that we’ve been excited about for months to newly announced Zelda, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Donkey Kong Country, and even Goldeneye titles. While everyone is focusing on how these games look and feel (the 3DS is absolutely stunning), we were paying attention to how they sounded, and I have to say that I liked what I heard.

  Salvation of Faith Records is a doujin circle which has had a fair share of famous releases over the last few years. They’ve released works based on games like Klonoa, Pokemon, Earthbound, Final Fantasy and Touhou Project. Most famous out of their catalog however, is probably the Concert of the Starry Sky series, based on the Kirby franchise by Nintendo. These releases were convention exclusive, and spanned 1-3 discs. The setup is very much like OCRemix’s project style, with open invitations to arrangement artists to submit their tracks to be included along side the tracks from the circle artists themselves, hapi⇒ and Yamajet.

  This release is scheduled for spring, which probably means we’ll see it pop up on May 5th at M3. The guidelines given for submission states that only game related songs are eligible for consideration, and the anime specific music will not be included.

  So, I just happened to be in Tokyo to check out the Press Start 2009 concert that took place earlier this month. I got there about an hour before the show, but the venue, the Tokyo Geijutsu Gekijo (Tokyo Art Hall), was already was surrounded by pretty-obvious-looking video game music fans. Going into the building, some fans were digging into the merchandise section already, and others were playing their DS eagerly waiting for the show to start. I knew I was in for a treat.

  For those who don’t know about Press Start, it’s an annual orchestral video game music concert organized by some of the big names in the Japanese video game industry including Nobuo Uematsu, Shogo Sakai, Masahiro Sakurai, Kazunari Nojima, and maestro Taizo Takemoto. It started back in 2006, so this year marks it’s 4th year in business.
