  I’d posted earlier about how Square Enix was attempting to dominate the summer with good arrangements. This morning, I awoke to find this site, posted by James Oikawa over at the STC Forums. It’s got 4 audio samples and the full tracklist, as well as methods for ordering the CD (which is set for release August 8, 2012).

  Based on the samples, I think it’s safe to say that Kikuta’s style of self-arrangement will essentially be like some sort of amazing HD remake of the Seiken Densetsu 2 (aka Secret of Mana) OSV from the Super Famicom days. Think of the high-quality synths Kikuta has used on projects like Shining Hearts, and use those to re-create the beauty of Kikuta’s best-known work. I think this album concept is going to work well.

  Ah SEGA, my longtime friend in life. It seems no matter how watered down the company gets or how many bumps they hit on the road to their finished product, I’m always drawn back to them with my arms open when they announce their new titles. At this E3 SEGA had a very nice looking booth with huge screens showing trailers, a nice looking Sonic 4 hut with Sonic himself displayed in statue form outside and the most heartbreaking t-shirt of all time, displaying proudly “Dreamcast September 2010” and “Guess Who’s Back!” giving a few uninformed nerds a near heart attack since they were anticipating the return of their favorite console, while it’s actually for the XBLA release of Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure.

  While being one of the nicest looking booths, it was also incredibly noisy with dancing games, shooting games and trailers making it hard to pick up what the games actually sounded like. However thanks to my Six Million Dollar Man like hearing, I did get some idea of what we can expect to hear from SEGA in the near future.

  MAGFest 8 was my 5th time traveling to the humble convention in Virginia dedicated to the music and fan following of the videogame industry. I started following the arrangement scene after stumbling across The Minibosses in 2002, and shortly after signed up on their message boards, and my life surprisingly took a big turn. I had always been extremely passionate about videogame music since childhood, and the idea of a band arranging many of my favorite games was nothing short of mind blowing. As time went on, with many new friends and childhood dreams of setting foot in America, I finally had the chance to travel to MAGFest 4.

  Since then, I haven’t missed a single event, and have been blessed with new members of my family and countless friends as a result. But looking back at the conventions, I always find myself wondering if it is purely the people and friends that makes me come out, or if the convention actually offers enough for me to shill out the money and effort? What memories do I leave with of the actual event itself?
