E3 2010: Front Mission Evolved and 15th Anniversary Box?

Front Mission Evolved isn’t the same tactical strategy game that you’ve come to know and love over the past 15 years. But that doesn’t mean it’s a button-mashing action game either. Front Mission Evolved is a surprisingly deep mech combat action game that will still have you strategizing while you blow up and smash your opponents (especially in the game’s awesome multiplayer mode).

With FME is taking the franchise in a different direction, the game not only features beautiful graphics and environments (even more amazing in 3D), but also an epic and powerful soundtrack by composer Garry Schyman. We had the opportunity to speak with top team members from developer Double Helix as well as senior producer Shinji Hashimoto from Square Enix Japan about the game’s music and got some interesting responses.

E3 2010: Live Orchestra For Zelda Skyward Sword Confirmed?

While there was no mention of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword’s soundtrack at this morning’s press conference, Nintendo held an evening panel featuring Shigeru Miyamoto, Eiji Aonuma, and 3DS team lead Hideki Kondo to cover some of this morning’s titles in more depth and to offer up a brief Q&A session.

The biggest thing to come out of this panel for us here was news about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword’s soundtrack, and it wasn’t even a question from OSV! Find out what Miyamoto had to say about the game’s soundtrack that makes it appear likely that the game will feature at least some live orchestra.

E3 2010: Deus Ex Human Evolution Soundtrack Details

With Square Enix now publishing Eidos titles, their booth here at E3 is quite the busy place. While I admittedly skipped the second Deus Ex game, Deus Ex: Human Evolution is shaping up to be a great looking game. It was announced some time ago that composer Michael McCann would be handling the game’s soundtrack, but this is the first opportunity people have had to actually hear it in the game.

We were fortunately able to speak with the title’s producer about Michael McCann’s involvement and the direction for the game’s score this time around. We also learn about their intentions to distribute the soundtrack, how many minutes of music will be featured, and whether or not a live orchestra will be featured.

E3 2010: Nintendo’s Hardcore Press Conference

Nintendo’s press conference has come to a close, and it’s looking like 2010 and even 2011 are going to be big years for Nintendo fans. While half of the conference was dominated by the 3DS (which also had some amazing game announcements), the Wii and DS are getting a lot of love this year.

Nearly every classic Nintendo franchise was covered, from the upcoming Metroid: Other M that we’ve been excited about for months to newly announced Zelda, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Donkey Kong Country, and even Goldeneye titles. While everyone is focusing on how these games look and feel (the 3DS is absolutely stunning), we were paying attention to how they sounded, and I have to say that I liked what I heard.

Michael Jackson, you say? Well, yes, at least in videogame form. Ubisoft held its annual E3 press conference in front of a packed crowd at the Los Angeles Theater, and there were certainly some pleasant surprises throughout the evening.

While Ubisoft unveiled a number of interesting titles including Driver: San Francisco, Ghost Recon: Future War, and a new Rayman game with a sweeping orchestral soundtrack, the highlights of the evening were the first and last titles shown: Child of Eden and a game titled Michael Jackson.

While E3 isn’t officially here until Tuesday, journalists and developers are making their way to Los Angeles and setting up shop for the week of chaos to come. Audun and I are here and are looking at our crazy schedules for this week, wondering what to expect. We thought it would be fun to put together a brief preview of what we expect to hear on the show floor.

From Square Enix’s mostly North American-developed titles to SEGA’s new Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors, there’s certainly a lot to look forward to. There’s also Kow Otani working on Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes, John Guscott’s return to the colorful world of de Blob in de Blob Underground, retro goodness with Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, and a new take on a classic franchise with Castlevania: Lord of Shadows.
