E3 2010: Squaresoft Sounds Coming From Square Enix’s Booth

We couldn’t help but spend a lot of time over at Square Enix’s booth at E3 this week. We saw everything from Final Fantasy XIV to Front Mission Evolved to Deus Ex, and there was infinitely more to see and hear in their 20+ minute E3 presentation that was on a continuous loop throughout the entire event. While we were waiting around for various appointments and games, I more than once turned my head to a familiar sound from Square Enix’s past.

While some of these titles were announced well in advance of E3, some of them were completely new and not really publicized. Find out what we heard after the jump. (more…)

E3 2010: Nomura Confirms Composer for Kingdom Hearts 3D (Interview)

A few lucky journalists, myself included, had the chance to sit down with Tetsuya Nomura at E3 to discuss the future titles in the Kingdom Hearts and Parasite Eve. Despite severe jetlag and overall fatigue he sat through numerous interview sessions and answered to the best of his ability.

At this year’s E3 we saw 2 new Kingdom Hearts games to be released in the future, Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded and Kingdom Hearts 3D on the 3DS. During our short session together we sat down to talk about the musical side of the Kingdom Hearts series and what to expect in the future.

While E3 is officially over, we still have a ton of coverage to share with you. We’re going to try to wrap things up through this weekend to get back to our regularly scheduled programming, but we hope you’ve enjoyed the coverage thus far. Today we were able to get a peek at Bungie’s big new Halo prequel, Halo: Reach. The game itself is shaping up quite nicely with a combination of gameplay styles, including squad-based combat and futuristic dogfights in outer space. They’re also touting upgraded firefight mode that was introduced in ODST, now with matchmaking and a lot of customization.

But about that music. Yes, of course Marty O’Donnell is working on it, and he has something very different in store for fans.

We got some hands-on time with some of Konami’s lineup today, and I couldn’t help but notice Hard Corps: Uprising, a vibrant side-scrolling run ‘n’ gun title that looked quite similar to Contra. It’s a downloadable game for the Xbox Live Arcade that not only looks beautiful with its anime-inspired visuals, but is also a lot of fun to play and listen to with its heavy metal soundtrack.

We had the opportunity to speak briefly with one of the game’s producers, Kenji Yamamoto (yes, yet another Kenji Yamamoto in the game industry) to talk about the game’s music and what to expect.

Man what a beast E3 is. Lights, smoke, silicon and luchadores all fighting for your attention as you walk down the aisles of never ending games. It’s been a rather good year here with plenty of big names showing their stuff on the show floor and it seems every company has at least one title with loads of potential.

It should be absolutely no surprise that Capcom had a very strong line of titles to show the sweaty media. From Okamiden to Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, they showed titles that would satisfy everyone across everything. I had the chance to go down and listen to some of the music in the middle of the crazyness.

E3 2010: Castlevania Lords of Shadow Will Make You Cry Bloody Tears

As we just mentioned, Konami’s E3 2010 press conference has just come to a close. We saw a number of titles, including a new Silent Hill title and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow which was one of my most anticipated games of E3 2010. While we haven’t played the game on the show floor yet, we did get the opportunity to speak briefly with producer David Cox about the game’s audio after the conference.

So, what information did we discover? How about whether the rock music that the series is known for will make an appearance? We have the answer to this question and more after the jump. (more…)

E3 2010: Akira Yamaoka Not Composing Next Silent Hill

Yes, you read that correctly. Despite the fact that Akira Yamaoka said he’d be willing to work on future Silent Hill titles if asked by Konami in our interview with him at GDC 2010, it appears as though the development team has moved on and picked another high profile composer to carry the torch forward. Konami’s E3 press conference was this afternoon, and while they talked about a number of titles that we’ll be telling you about in the coming days, we did want to let you know who’s taking the reigns of the Silent Hill series and what we heard during the conference.
