  Yes, a big surprise. I was turned on to Arkenstone’s unusual foray into the world of chillout music with Christmas Lounge after his performance in San Diego on Saturday, December 18, and we’re now getting around to telling you about the concert itself. While there was a piece from Christmas Lounge performed at the concert, the set list was much more varied in terms of style and genre.

  For those who missed out, David Arkenstone and his friends traveled to two different Southern California cities this past weekend: San Diego on Saturday, and Thousand Oaks on Sunday. This “Winter Solstice Concert” featured classic Christmas songs and carols alongside Arkenstone’s original compositions, which actually complemented one another quite nicely.

  With the holidays in a full swing, and having just seen world music and World of Warcraft artist David Arkenstone perform this past weekend (more on that later this week), it seems as good a time as any to dig into some of his Christmas offerings. While Visions of Christmas is his latest holiday album, I did want to revisit his 2009 release, Christmas Lounge.

  Just as the album title and this post title would suggest, this isn’t your typical David Arkenstone. Gone are the Celtic influences, small ensemble instrumentation, and even the unique aural storytelling that Arkenstone is known for. Instead, this is a serious electronic chillout album featuring David Arkenstone and arranger Seth Osburn.

  The day more than 10 million people around the world have been waiting for is finally here. While there has been a lot of excitement about what the Cataclysm expansion pack would mean to the World of Warcraft experience, players were finally able to dig in last week to re-explore new areas, discover new ones, and enjoy over 8 hours of new music that was added to the game.

  Included with the Collector’s Edition version of Cataclysm was a soundtrack album, and you probably know from our past reviews of these limited edition pack-ins as well as the BlizzCon exclusive albums that we’re huge fans of the music from the game. Cataclysm has a lot to live up to, not only in terms of being the newest addition to the franchise, but also in that it revisits several themes from the past.

  And that’s not all we learned about Cataclysm at BlizzCon 2010. In addition to a live performance of some of the music from the game, we received a great deal of information about how the new music will be implemented in the game, what will be featured on the CD that will be included with the Limited Edition version on of the game, and what will be happening to the original music that Jason Hayes and the Blizzard Entertainment team wrote for the original World of Warcraft.
