This is a reminder that there are two copies of one of the best albums of 2008 still up for grabs. We’re giving away two copies of Symphonic Shades, and all we’re asking you to do is record yourself saying the word “Hülsbeck” and shoot it over to [email protected]. The deadline is May 28, 2009 at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time, so get those entries in before it’s too late!
We have good news today on two fronts. First of all, the album release for the Symphonic Shades concert featuring the music of Chris Hülsbeck (that’s “Huelsbeck” for those of you who fear the almighty umlaut) has sold so well that they’ve burned through their inventory and are offering an identical second edition later this month. Even better, it’s being sold at a lower price, and is currently available for pre-order here.
The second piece of good news is that we have two copies of the first edition here in our offices just for you. So, what do you have to do to win one? Simple! Send us an audio file of you saying “Hülsbeck,” and the two entries that we find the most entertaining will win a copy of the album. Are you at all surprised by the popularity of this album? Are you with many others in thinking it was one of the best albums of 2008?
How does a chance to win a professional version of the ACID software suite, five sample libraries, merchandise from High Voltage, and an appearance on The Conduit’s official soundtrack album sound? The Acid Planet website is currently running a remix contest where the grand prize is just that. You have until June 11th to enter, so get writing!
Even if you’re not the musician type, you can hear a track from the game as well as download 66 individual instrument tracks by visiting the contest website. It’s cool to finally hear some music from the game which is due out later in June, so be sure to check it out. We mentioned that composer Diego Stacco would be handling the game’s score, and I’m looking forward to hearing more of his music. I’m just happy that they’re releasing a soundtrack album!

There are plenty of great music/rhythm games in this beautiful world of ours. But who would’ve thought Sony’s PSP would do so well as a platform for the games? In any case, it seems that DJ Max Fever for PSP is the new hot thing. And we have some news for you about it.
First of all, publisher PM Studios has announced the “Platinum Crew” service, which serves as a community portal where scores, rankings, and mission accomplishments are aggregated and tracked. The service plans on incorporating multiple games over time, but the first game they’ll be servicing (gee, that doesn’t sound awkward) is DJ Max Fever. DJ Max Technika is also planned to be added to the service later in 2009.
PM Studios has also announced a Limited Edition set for DJ Max Fever, which includes all manner of awesome freebies. The LE is essentially the Japanese “Orpheus” limited edition set, which includes artbook, soundtrack, postcards, and of course, a signed copy of the game. Only 30 total copies of this exclusive set will be distributed, and none of it will be for sale. One of the 30 copies can be obtained via a contest giveaway at Joystiq. We highly recommend you try and nab one for yourself.
Most copies will be awarded to high-ranking players that use the Platinum Crew service playing DJ Max Fever. So if you don’t win through giveaways, there’s always that route. But you better start practicing!

We realize that most of you probably missed this contest announcement buried under both the review of the album and the recent Mirror’s Edge Is Still Alive Contest. Needless to say, we’ve extended the deadline, and will take entries up until 11:59PM PST on Thursday, March 12. Alright, you’re probably tired of seeing this image on the site, but at least we have our winners! It was a tough choice, as there were a number of creative and hilarious song title suggestions, but we’ve finally come to a decision.
