  Joshua Morse’s Castlevania remix albums VLAD and VLAD II contain some of my perpetual favorite EDM tracks, and they’re extra fitting around this spoOoOoky season. He’s made a tradition of releasing them just in time for Halloween only this year we’re getting a single instead of a 4-track EP.

  “Demon Seed” from Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse was always a funky jam and Morse gives it his danceable electronic update here. Samples, breaks, and drops put a fun spin on the theme while the bumpin’ beat keep it all in step. Take a listen above and grab the track for pay-what-you-want over on Joshua Morse’s Bandcamp page.

  As noted last Friday, Daniel Brown took part in a 24 TV/Internet broadcast Dogma Retro Game Show that was related to all things gaming. Kusoge up the kusohole, world record setting speedruns of Wai Wai World and kinky photographs of people and their Famicom were all part to shape the whole day broadcast into a success. Daniel Brown’s 30 minute piano performance was presented as one of the main attractions, and was watched by several thousand viewers. So many were impressed that the NicoNicoDouga feed struggled to keep up due to traffic and on-screen commentary.

  And as promised, here is the recording of the entire performance. What you’ll hear is Castlevania 1,2 and 3 in near entirety, performed back to back. Brown choose the occasion to debut all new material, some of which might find its way onto a new release in the future. There was also a surprise encore, with a song specifically arranged for the show host due to it being his favorite song. The song is titled “Yin Hung Gu Si” and is sung by Jackie Chan at the end of Police Story in 1985.

  Ah, Halloween, such a good time of year. Throughout my life, that day always had a significance to me. Not only is it my dear mother’s birthday, it’s also a time to dress up in tight-fitting clothes and flashy colors that attract the attention of every old man on the street. Halloween as a celebration was actually imported to Northern Europe quite late, as we only recently started seeing a huge marketing angle with costumes and such from stores. I still fondly remember the day me and my best friend went to a Halloween party as Lucha Stockman and Banker Ackbar, me in a Hayabusa wrestling mask, suit and tie, and my friend in vest, suspenders and a rubber Ackbar mask from Star Wars.  Good times. But this year, I’m not gonna dress up and spread my colorful fairy wings, I’m staying inside and listening to Sonata of The Damned instead.

  So what’s Sonata of the Damned? Well it’s the newest album from our good friend Joshua Morse! This time he has worked on a Castlevania release perfect for this holiday. It’s ready for release tomorrow, but here you can read our exclusive thoughts on it first and see if it’ll tickle your fancy.
