Jon Everist’s score to BATTLETECH is available for Pre-order

I have been anticipating the soundtrack to Battletech since 2016. Jon Everist discussed his work on the score in an interview last year which you can read here if you missed it. The soundtrack will be released on April 24, 2018 coinciding with the release of the game which is also available for pre-order on Steam.

The album contains 60 tracks, featuring over 3 hours of music from Harebrained Schemes epic turn-based tactical game. You can listen to the samples below including the music from the game’s opening cinematic.

The music was performed by the Budapest Symphonic Scoring Orchestra, the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt, and the Live Choir was recorded with members of the Latvian Radio Choir. The album also features solo performances by cellist Erika Kádi and vocalist Emily Ridgway.

On November 30, 2017, Black Screen Records announced that they are bringing Jon Everist’s soundtracks to the HarebrainedSchemes (HBS) games Shadowrun: Dragonfall, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong to vinyl later this winter. Pre-orders have already begun, and the albums have already become top sellers for vinyl soundtracks on bandcamp. Shadowrun: Dragonfall will be available on limited edition clear 180g single vinyl, Shadowrun: Hong Kong on limited edition gold/silver 180g double vinyl.

Remastered by Christian Bethge at RAMA Tonstudio (Dear Esther, Another World, Syberia 3), Jon Everist’s cinematic soundtracks to the beloved Shadowrun series will get a high quality vinyl treatment through Black Screen Records with all-new original artworks by concept artists and illustrators Jenn Ravenna (Dragonfall) and Joel DuQue (Hong Kong) who both have originally worked on the games at Harebrained Schemes in Seattle. The vinyl soundtracks will be housed in poly-lined inner sleeves and will come with free mp3 download codes. Mock ups and additional layout by Dane Baudoin (Another World, Earthworm Jim).

The composer is also offering signed copies of each soundtrack directly on his bandcamp page, which are limited to 50 copies each. You can also purchase prints of the stunning album artwork.

INTERVIEW: Composer Jon Everist talks to us about BattleTech, and scoring for video games

With the late summer release date quickly approaching for the upcoming Harebrained Schemes BattleTech, we took some time to talk to composer Jon Everist his work on the music for the game. He has also composed music for the games Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, Necropolis and Planetstorm: Fallen Horizon which recently came to Android. In the interview the composer shares details about his musical background, how he approached scoring Battletech, working with the Budapest Scoring Symphony and more. Read on for our full interview:

Go Behind the Music of Battletech with Composer Jon Everist

Jon Everist the composer of the soundtracks to Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, and Necropolis is currently working on the score to HarebrainedSchemes’ Battletech. It’s one on my most anticipated scores for this year, and has been posting videos that take us behind the music. I have shared the playlist above which currently has two videos.

The first video features a simple video of a MIDI mood piece I wrote in a day to accompany a specific portion of the game. This is an (obviously) unfinished version of a track in progress that will later be properly mixed and mastered and added to. This video serves to show that fairly complex moods can be established with rather simple brushstrokes and textures using virtual instruments and analog synths. Future videos will include commentary by myself with a more robust look into what processes I follow when writing a cue for BattleTech (or for anything). This will include live videos of my recordings with orchestra, score overviews, some videos of me smashing keys, pushing buttons and twisting knobs on synths in my studio and some cinematics and snippets of music in the game itself.

The second video is much more in depth and the composer dicusses the tools and processes he uses to create mock ups to record with live orchestra. You’ll also hear a few snippets of music coming to BattleTech.

2017: My Most Anticipated Video Game Music Albums

I love writing about soundtracks I’m excited for, and usually do it following E3 every year. You can read my most recent list of most anticipated soundtrack following E3 2016 here.

This past year I’ve learned about a number of soundtracks that are in the works, and I’ve collected a list of them for you. I know 2016 isn’t over yet but let me know what you think, and please let me know about all of the great upcoming album’s I’ve missed!

Listen to 6 tracks from the upcoming NECROPOLIS by Jon Everist

Jon Everist, who has composed the music for Shadowrun: Hong Kong and my choice for the composer of the year in 2015 has just released six tracks from his score to the upcoming Indie Game Necropolis. Necropolis is a gorgeous looking game of brutal combat and survival, set in a magical deathtrap that shifts and reconstructs itself around you. It’s tag line is: “Will you find the exit, or die trying?” I have listened to all six tracks and have to say that I can’t wait to hear the rest of the score, it’s dark, intriguing, and at times mesmerizing. My personal favorite track so far is the groovy “Official PAXEast Trailer Music”.

You can watch the trailer to the game which is made by HarebrainedSchemes below which reminds me a bit of Dark Souls meets The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker.

Jon Everist has more of his music available on his Soundcloud page which I recommend you check out. I exchanged emails with Jon Everist after I bought his Shadowrun: Hong Kong CD Soundtrack, he said that his next big project is scoring the music to Battletech and working with a 66 piece orchestra.
