We’re marching forward with OSVOSTOTY 2012! Today’s category, “Best Arrange Album,” is one of my personal favorites. There were a lot of great arranged albums this year, though (as you’ll see in our nominations list) one publisher put the money and time behind this category of music, and they’re reaping the rewards.

It’s day 2 of OSVOSTOTY 2012! For today’s category, “Re-Issue” can also cover “Previously Unreleased” territory, and even sound upgrade versions that don’t quite fit the category of “arranged album.” Basically, we’re talking about music written a long time ago, published in 2012.

Welcome, dear readers, to OSVOSTOTY 2012! This year is our craziest year yet. Every day this week, we will reveal the nominees for seven separate categories. The categories are:
Best Other Release
Best Re-Issue Soundtrack
Best Arrange Album
Best Sound Design
Best In-Game Soundtrack
Best Soundtrack (Overall)
Composer of the Year
After the first week is over, we will announce the winners for each category each day of the following week.
We’re starting with “Best Other Release.” This miscellaneous category covers any original music not written for a game. In this way, we’ve collapsed previous categories such as chiptunes or film soundtracks into this category alongside the usuals: original concept albums. Our nominees for “Other” after the jump!

The results are in. This is one of the toughest processes any of us here at OSV have had to go through, but we’ve finally come to a list and ranking that we can all at least kind of agree upon. No, I’m kidding. Even though we each fought for our individual favorites, we all stand behind the results, and we hope we can turn you on to some new music that you may have missed this year in the process.

It’s that time of year again! We had a good time at the G.A.N.G. Awards last year, where not only did we see strong wins from AFRIKA, Dead Space, and Wrath of the Lich King, but also saw some amazing performances by Norihiko Hibino and others. G.A.N.G. has just announced their nominees for the 8th Annual G.A.N.G. Awards set to take place this year.
While I’m glad to see a number of titles that we’ve covered on the site on the list, including Assassin’s Creed II, AVATAR: The Game, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I am disappointed that the only Japanese offering to make an appearance is Resident Evil 5. In fact, between the 5 OSV editors who listed their top 5 soundtrack picks from 2009, none of the 25 or so entries (there were duplicates) are nominated in the G.A.N.G. Awards (save for Gideon’s pick of Flower), including the amazing soundtrack to Shatter. I’m still interested to see who will win.
