E1 Music, the largest independent music label in the US are pleased to announce that they have signed video game arrangement band Powerglove to a new contract, and they are planning their first release together this fall. In the press release, Powerglove said the following:
“We are all extremely proud to announce E1 as our new label. And really, what better label for us than one who is home to both IN FLAMES and the Sesame Street catalogue?
“We spoke with many great labels about releasing this album, yet E1 has always felt like the best place for our brand of ridiculous nerd metal. We hereby do solemnly swear that with E1, Powerglove will bring you even more explosions, candy, and nostalgia-gasms. No Powerglove, No Powerlove!
Powerglove have released 2 very successful powermetal arrange albums since their emergence on the scene in 2004 and with this signing, those being Total PWNage and Metal Kombat For Mortal Man. While label signings is not uncommon in doujin, it marks a somewhat historic day in the west which will surely inspire fans to work even harder to honor the timeless classics from video games. E1 Music’s other artists include In Flames and the music license to the Barbie franchise.

In Flames, Sesame Street, Powerglove. I am proud to say I have all three on my playlist.
But on the topic of Powerglove, I’m still not entirely sold on their move to cartoon themes — you can hear their live previews of Transformers and X-Men on youtube from their recent tour with Sonata Arctica and Hammerfall. Sure, it’s poor quality, but can 30 second tunes really hold up for 5 minutes? I’ll probably love it, the nostalgia factor alone is immense, but this seems a step backwards from the arrangement genius of ‘Red Wings Over Baron’ and the sheer brutality of ‘Omnishred’.
Still, love these guys to death. And their site kept me entertained for ages! 🙂
Blimey.
Good for them! Their cover of Power Rangers is better than ArmCannon’s, and their version of Duck Hunt is unique.
