Are you going to Boston this weekend for the debut of Penny Arcade’s East Coast Expo? Great! We’ll be there too, carrying bags full of journalism, instant noodles and other terrible junk food that we’ll probably regret eating later. But more importantly, we’ll bouncing around the Hynes Convention Center like overstimulated Yorkshire terriers covering all sort of music-related happenings at PAX East.
Find a short round-up of some notable events and panels you might want to check out after the jump!
It’s Got A Good Beat, And I Can Kill Zombies To It
Jamspace (Rm 309)
Friday, 3:00pm
Since the first kid heard the four-note Space Invaders theme blasting out the arcade doors, music has played a powerful role in the history of digital games. Join panelists Aubrey Hodges (Doom, King’s Quest, Spy Hunter, Madden NFL), Jim Bonney (Mortal Kombat, John Woo’s Stranglehold), Tom Salta (H.A.W.X, GRAW 1 & 2, Red Steel), Gene Rozenberg (Henry Hatsworth, Madden NFL) and Duncan Watt (League Of Legends, Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway, Need For Speed: Undercover), for an audiovisual trip celebrating great videogame music – from the past, to the present… and into the future. Audience discussion encouraged.

Chiptune 5: Live Free Or Chip Hard
Jamspace (Rm 309)
Saturday, 10:30am | Sunday, 12:00pm
I’ll be leading a chipmusic panel on Saturday in the JamSpace room, joined by a panel of local 8-bit musicians who will share their experiences incubating Boston’s burgeoning chipmusic scene. Afterwards, we’re going to rock the joint six ways till Sunday with not one, but two chiptune concerts, right smack dab in the middle of PAX. And if all goes according to plan, we might be playing outside too. Because, you know, no one’s done that at PAX before.
