NYCC: ‘Tis the Season Already!

We are just over a month away from New York Comic Con and the panels have still not yet been announced on the website. At NYCC 2010, there was a wonderful little panel about film and game music featuring editors from such places as Film Score Monthly. This panel was entitled “The Music of Heroes” and focused on music in the superhero genre across all mediums. There were some wonderful moments such as, after a glorious boxset and its very-high price were announced, someone shouted, “That’s why things end up on bittorrent!” to which the panel gasped. I was even able to have a conversation asking film-score mavens what their response was to the growing number of film composers flexing their muscles in the game industry. The response was, “As long as it’s good!” Anyone reading this site knows that it has been damn good.

To my pleasant surprise, the panel I attended the previous year was full and enthusiastic and I was sure such a panel would return. Last year, however, featured no such panels or discussions devoted to film or game music. As to be expected, I will brave the forty or so blocks it takes for me to get to the Javits Center to report on any game-music events. What say you? Should there be a panel devoted to game music at Comic Con? Is it the proper venue? Surely, if there are dozens of Anime panels there can be one devoted to us nerds, no?
