Not to say any of his recent work is bad. While I love the classic scores for Secret of Evermore and Total Annihilation, I was even further impressed with the sound he developed during the Morrowind and Oblivion era. Taking it a step further, the Soule brothers released their soundtrack for Guild Wars: Eye of the North in 2007, and the drastic upgrade in maturity and sound quality made it one of my favorite releases of the year.

So, what does this have to do with anything? Well, a new trailer was released for Jeremy Soule’s latest project, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, and I must say the music is on the same level as Eye of the North, establishing the new “Soule sound” as it were. It’s amazing to see him continuing to grow as a musician, having started so early at the tender age of 19 with Secret of Evermore.

The music in the trailer above is something new for Soule, tackling epic World War II air combat. It’s interesting to hear his take on what I think of as its own genre in the game music world. I will say, however, that the long, airy chrous section definitely allows his RPG side to show though. I’m looking forward to this soundtrack release!

Anyone else been following Jeremy Soule’s work lately? Does the music in the trailer above do anything for you?
