Yeah, I know, you’re probably not going to be there, but we wanted to let you know that Video Games Live is hitting Singapore this weekend, and they’re bringing our friend and contributor Norihiko Hibino along with them to jam out “Snake Eater” from Metal Gear Solid 3. I imagine it will be a lot better than the rendition we saw in the fan-made video that won our MGS contest last year.
As a bonus, Tommy was kind enough to pass along this busy promotional poster for the show. See Hibino’s portrait tucked way in the corner? Almost looks like the text should say, “A Challenger Approaches!” Anyway, it sounds like a good time.

Video Games Live (VGL), an immersive and interactive symphony performance blending spectacular visuals and captivating music from video games, will be performed in Southeast Asia for the first time, for one night only, on Friday 19 June 2009 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
A tribute to video games culture over the past three decades, VGL features the best game music, performed live by top orchestras and choirs and integrated with exclusive video game footage and music arrangements, and accompanied with a spectacular display of synchronized lighting, live action, special effects and solo performances.

Infused with a combination of the emotion of a symphony orchestra, the excitement and energy of a rock concert, and modern technology, cutting-edge visuals, fun and interactivity of a video game, VGL will present to the Singapore audience a completely new and unique experience that music buffs, families and people of all ages can appreciate.
Featuring music by the Singapore NUS Symphony Orchestra & NUS Choir and visuals projected into giant video screens, VGL will feature the most popular video games from past to present, including Classic Arcade favorites, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Guitar Hero, Metal Gear Solid, Sonic, Space Invaders, Diablo, TRON, The Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Mario, WarCraft, and many more.
The concert will include live-on-stage action from VGL’s co-creators and producers Jack Wall and Tommy Tallarico, Guinness Record holder for prolificacy in video game composing, and VGL’s solo pianist Martin Leung, an award-winning and globally-recognized musical pioneer for the 21st century.
One of the most successful video game composers in history, Tommy Tallarico has worked on more than 275 video game titles over 19 years, and has recieved over 45 industry awards for best video game audio. He was the first to use live guitar and 3-D audio in a video game (The Terminator), and instrumental in introducing true digital interactive 5.1 surround to the gaming world. Jack Wall, one industry’s top award winning composers of video game music since 1996, built an impressive track record and an international reputation as an A-List composer and music producer in the interactive entertainment sector. His composing credits include Myst III: Exile, Myst IV: Revelation, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and Rise of the Kasai, among others.
Video game enthusiasts will get to catch a rare appearance by music composer Norihiko Hibino. Norihiko is globally renowned for his work on the soundtrack of Metal Gear Solid, a video game series that has sold 22 million copies worldwide.
The Singapore Indoor Stadium is Singapore’s largest and most versatile indoor sports and entertainment venue. Officially opened in December 1989, the Singapore Indoor Stadium has a flexible arena that can be arranged to accommodate up to 12,000 spectators. The Stadium has been used for various major sport events, entertainment events and concerts performed by international superstars such as Elton John, Janet Jackson, Oasis, Metallica, Dephece Mode, David Bowie, Coldplay, Avril Lavigne, the Cure, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Fall Out Boy and many more.
Pre-Show Festival
A Pre-show Festival will be staged before the concert in celebration of the event. After the concert, the audience will get to mingle and meet with favorite video game characters and concert artists.
– Cosplay Contest: Dress as your favorite game character and stand a chance to showcase your costume on stage at the concert
– Meet and Greet: Meet and mingle with the people behind Video Games Live after the concert, including Tommy Tallarico, Jack Wall, Norihiko Hibino, Martin Leung and others
– Arcade Legacy: Go back in time and relive classic all-time favorite action video games like Pac Man, Space Invaders, Tetris and Donkey Kong
– Console Challenge: Compete on games available on PCs/Consoles and arcade machines
– Guitar Hero Competition Finals: The winners will be challenged on stage during the performance
