Yes, it’s that time of year again. Sometime around mid-June of 2008, Dale North and I flipped the switch and OSV was born. At the time we covered a pretty wide variety of topics, but things have since narrowed down to game music as a focus. You can read more about how the site came to be, including a story about how the band Lonestar tried make me turn over my login to my Last.fm account, in our second birthday write-up.
Anyway, I don’t have any big insights this year. A lot has changed, most notably with Dale North being promoted to Editor-in-Chief over at Destructoid, and me joining the team over there as an Associate Editor. I’ve had a blast trying to get gamers more excited about the audio they’re hearing in their gaming experiences, and I think it’s going well with my new monthly reviews feature, Note Worthy, and the revival of The Sound Card, a top ten list and miscellaneous game music topics feature. Expect some more cross-overs between OSV and Destructoid in the future.
In the meantime, Patrick Gann has been kind enough to handle most of what’s been going up on OSV lately. But we need your help! If you believe in what OSV is doing and want to see it continue, we’d love to see somebody rise up and take the reins; the site is way too important to let it slide into obscurity. If you or anyone you know may be interested in helping this nerdy music blog, shoot us a message and let us know.
We’re extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished with OSV, and are grateful to our readers who’ve stuck with us over the years. We’re counting on you to let us know what you want to read on the site, so whether it’s game music, anime soundtracks, J-pop, hip hop, or technical music stuff, let us know, and feel free to share your favorite OSV moments from the past four years!

Happy birthday OSV!
I’ve been lurking here since 2008, and after reading this post I almost considered contributing to the site, but I’m afraid my musical interests are much too narrow for a music blog – even a nerdy one.
I do hope someone out there will step up to the task; it would be a crime to let something this good die.
Again, happy birthday – hopefully there’ll be many yet to come!
I have enjoyed the site too over the years, and I’d hate to see it go. I don’t think I could contribute often enough here if I was a contributor.
Happy birthday, and cheers!
I’ve also been lurking around for a whiiiile now and just started commenting recently. The posts that immediately spring to mind are all about NiER. I couldn’t get anyone I know into the game and I thought I was the only one deeply in love with its soundtrack but here comes OSV with post after post of loving review and news on all the albums.
Like Anothony and Per said, I’d only be able to post about a very specific sub-sub-sub-set of video game music. What if we all band together as one ultra-blogger, a Legion of game music nerds and come up with at least one thing a month (or quarter)? That wouldn’t be impossible to organize or anything!
However it plays out, happy birthday today and many more!!
Congrats to everyone involved with this great site!
Wow, it’s been four years already? Incredible. Keep up the great work!
Hey, Jayson.
I was wondering if you can share your email address, because I have a lot question or soundtrack music want to share with you.
Now about the FINAL FANTASY XII ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK + PIANO COLLECTIONS.
I bet you must already make your pre-order.
So, I have a question, do you is the limited edition of FINAL FANTASY XII OST & Piano Collections really worth it?
Or should I just order the regular edition?
Thanks.
