We got some hands-on time with some of Konami’s lineup today, and I couldn’t help but notice Hard Corps: Uprising, a vibrant side-scrolling run ‘n’ gun title that looked quite similar to Contra.  It’s a downloadable game for the Xbox Live Arcade that not only looks beautiful with its anime-inspired visuals, but is also a lot of fun to play and listen to with its heavy metal soundtrack.

We had the opportunity to speak briefly with one of the game’s producers, Kenji Yamamoto (yes, yet another Kenji Yamamoto in the game industry) to talk about the game’s music and what to expect.

Find out what he had to say after the jump.

What you’ll be most interested to learn is that the game will actually feature some remixes of Contra material.  When I was at the kiosk, I was told that while the game looks and feels similar to Contra, they were trying to differentiate it from their classic franchise, so this revelation came as a bit of a surprise.

In terms of who’s handling the music, it will be none other than Daisuke Ishiwatari of both Guilty Gear and BlazBlue fame. With him behind the helm, and Contra remixes promised to be present, I am very excited for this soundtrack. The game is pretty awesome to, so look forward to hearing more about it soon as it’s set to release this year.

What do you think of Hard Corps: Uprising? Will you be looking to Ishiwatari’s latest work?
