Man what a beast E3 is. Lights, smoke, silicon and luchadores all fighting for your attention as you walk down the aisles of never ending games. It’s been a rather good year here with plenty of big names showing their stuff on the show floor and it seems every company has at least one title with loads of potential.
It should be absolutely no surprise that Capcom had a very strong line of titles to show the sweaty media. From Okamiden to Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, they showed titles that would satisfy everyone across everything. I had the chance to go down and listen to some of the music in the middle of the crazyness.
Check it out after the jump
Bionic Commando ReArmed 2 (XBLA\PSN)
Capcom had a small 1 stage demo of the new jumping platformer. Musically very little was in place with just a simple military march drum melody. The sound effects are really powerful with explosions looking and sounding really thick and the weapons making sounds that can be explained as evolved SFX based on the NES game. No composer is named yet, but my bet is that Simon Viklund is returning once again.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 (PS3\XBOX360)
As mentioned in my preview, the second game in this series didn’t exactly have a good soundtrack. In fact it was so bad people did all they could to change it out. There’s little reason to worry about this game however as the music sound very catchy and fitting. My time with this title was limited because of popularity but it seemed like the songs were stage specific and not character specific like in Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom. It probably won’t make your head explode, but the music is at least supporting rather than damaging compared to the previous titles.
Okamiden (DS)
Probably more popular than any other Capcom title was Okamiden, the prequel to Clover’s masterpiece Okami on the PS2 and Wii. The DS remake looks absolutely gorgeous, and it sounds damn good too. The music is very similar to the first game with a heavy inspiration of classical Japanese music. It really seems to push the DS to its limits in more ways than one, and you can be sure this will be one of the best soundtracks on DS this year.
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (DS)
Sadly no time could be spent on this game due to traffic in the convention center, but from the very little I heard it was quite similar to Pheonix Wright. Interestingly however was the fact that they had the soundtrack CD on display next to the game kiosk, so expect more Masakazu Sugimori goodness in your collection very soon.
Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes (PS3\Wii)
Kow Otani of Shadow of the Collossus fame scores this beat em up and delivers some high spirited heroic music. I actually found the music heard in the E3 demo a bit unoriginal, coming off sounding more like anime battle scene music but worst of all, the constant delivery of dialogue twice as loud as the music drowns everything. With so many other sounds going on around you, it really becomes bothersome to focus on hearing the music.
