If you’re like me and you’re not quite ready to let Halloween fade away for another year, then you can at least partake in a bit more horror-related game music courtesy of Gamechops!
“Never Alone” is a Five Nights at Freddy’s horrorcore / drumstep / drum and bass song from Nitroglitch and Dj CUTMAN and featuring a music video with video animation and visuals by Chronowolf and Dj CUTMAN. If you go and grab the download, you actually also get a special chillout remix of FNAF Sister Location.
So don’t feel you need to pack up your pumpkins and skeletons yet, as there’s still a bit of ghoulish juice to squeeze out of the Halloween season!
Some Halloween-related fun from Materia Collective is getting released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic Playstation game, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Resurrection of the Night is a 13-track arrangement album created by arrangers Wayne Strange (Video Games Live, Zelda Reorchestrated) and Tim Stoney (Zelda Reorchestrated) to pay tribute to the classic soundtrack crafted by series-mainstay Michiru Yamane. The album seeks to cover the most well-known tracks from Symphony of the Night in a fully-orchestral style, from the now iconic Dracula battle music “Dance of Illusions” to the beloved waltz “Dance of Pales” and the energetic “Tragic Prince”.
The music from Richter’s castle will be laid before you with Resurrection of the Night. We intend to delve deeper into the anguish that Alucard must endure with Alucard’s Elegy. Because we would be moving into more story-driven material we would like to make this experience a truly authentic one. That means hiring a professional choir, and, if our dreams are fully realized, a symphony orchestra. But enough talk, have at you! – Wayne Strange, Producer & Arranger
A follow up album titled Resurrection of the Night: Alucard’s Elegy will also be coming to Kickstarter to fund all-new live orchestra and choir recordings for release on CD and vinyl. Alucard’s Elegy will offer tracks from the game’s inverted castle and more for listeners to enjoy.
While it’s hard to improve on a soundtrack that’s already meticulously crafted and well-known, it’s sounding like Resurrection of the Night could prove to pay proper tribute to the game’s legacy. The album is currently available for pre-order on Bandcamp and will fully release on October 30th.
The people over at GameChops have decided to get in on the massive love for Cuphead and the game’s fantastic soundtrack by composer Kristofer Maddigan by creating an EDM-swing arrangement of “Botanic Panic” from the game’s music!
This remix of Botanic Panic is by James Landino and mastered by Dj CUTMAN. Cutman also edited the video, showing many boss fights thanks to the excellent gameplay footage by Emily Feder! Oh my gosh we sure have fallen in love with Cuphead over here at GameChops! Hope you enjoy this Cuphead electro swing music video, what an amazing soundtrack, incredible animation and an awesome game!
The catchy beats of the electro-swing arrangement fit perfectly with the game’s original melody and works with the zany gameplay of the video. The “Botanic Panic” Electro Swing Mix is free to download on the Gamechops website.
Once upon a time in 1997, there was a Nintendo 64 game developed by Treasure by the name of Mischief Makers. It was a cute side-scrolling platformer/shmup where you play a robotic maid and go on an adventure to save your creator from a bad guy. While the game was a bit obscure and only received mixed reviews at the time, it still has a niche fandom that remembers it fondly.
Enter Materia Collective, who decided they’d release little EP for the game featuring the likes of EDM artists James Landino, Voia, Ben Briggs, Baircave, and a guest appearance by Hyper Potions in order to create a arranged tribute to the game called Mischief Makers Remixed. The EP features five tracks of electronic dance arrangements of the music originally composed by Norio Hanzawa (of Gunstar Heroes fame under the alias NON), and is entirely produced by indie composer and arranger James Landino.
“When I was young, Mischief Makers was one of the titles I continued to rent from the video rental store and I grew a nostalgic fondness for it. To my surprise, many fans have reached out to me and requested the possibility of remixing the soundtrack to this game.
Nowadays the game industry is seeing a resurgence of cult classics and hidden gems being remastered. It would be awesome for a developer or publisher to consider remaking Mischief Makers for the current generation of consoles” – James Landino, Producer
Mischief Makers Remixed is a fully licensed album and can be purchased and downloaded digitally on Bandcamp for the tidy sum of $5.
Materia Collective and folk video game group The Travelers VGM have released a new album dedicated to the great love and emotion-filled songs from gaming, titled Ode to the Lovers.

Love is a central theme in so many RPGs, games which have the time and space to really flesh out developed storylines. There is always room for love even when the situation seems dire. Love, whether gained or lost, is also an important theme in folk music from around the world. – Ian Martyn, Traveler’s VGM arranger

Game music label Materia Collective along with Multiplayer charity organization have come together to help produce an entire EP of arranged and remixed video game music to help raise funds for aiding Hurricane Harvey victims, as well as draw attention to other recent victims of hurricanes in Florida and Puerto Rico.
SPIRIT is a fully licensed EP features four tracks of arranged game music from UNDERTALE, Final Fantasy VII, Journey and Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire, with proceeds from sales going to Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund at the Greater Houston Community Foundation to assist with relief efforts. Game artists and arrangers Braxton Burks (Pokémon Reorchestrated), Laura Intravia (Video Games Live), StringPlayerGamer (Strings of Determination), Loudr co-founder Jesse Budington, Sean Schafianski (Video Game Music Reorchestrated), and others have donated their time in order to put the album together for the charity effort.
We started working on SPIRIT almost immediately after Harvey, since many Materia Collective members are from Houston and wanted to contribute to the rebuilding process. There was a great outpouring of support in the immediate aftermath of this disaster; however, the need is ongoing, and we hope that our EP can contribute. In the time since we started this project, other hurricanes have affected other areas, including Florida, the Virgin Islands, and most recently, Puerto Rico. While all SPIRIT proceeds will go towards the Greater Houston Community Foundation, we also want to raise awareness for these other areas that badly need support. – Emily McMillian, Director
The album is currently available on Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify. Donation links for charities in other areas can be found on Bandcamp and Materia Collective’s official website.
Scarlet Moon Records, Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid) and AYAKI (Eterian Odyssey) are at it again with yet another Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies. After producing several albums based around video game music to help sooth you into relaxation, the team now brings it’s newest iteration: Fight for your Dreams.
Fight for your Dreams centers itself around battle themes and boss music from both video games and other popular media, all spun into a jazzy and smooth sequence of music tracks that will help ease your tension for the rigors of every-day life. Battle Themes from Undertale, Mega Man 2, Super Metroid and more are given the GENTLE LOVE touch of Hibino and AYAKI.
I’ve been wanting to create a volume dedicated to battle music for quite some time. I’ve been trying to increase the challenge factor with each installment of the series, and what better way to challenge Hibino-san and AYAKI than by taking some of the most intense music from videogames and having them transformed into lullabies? I thought it would be a unique way to celebrate the Halloween season. We hope you enjoy it! – Jayson Napolitano, Scarlet Moon Records producer
Fight for your Dreams is currently on pre-order through Bandcamp for $10 and will be fully released on October 10th. You can check out more of the Game Music Lullabies albums on the Scarlet Moon Records website. (Personally, I am really looking forward to that “Autobots vs. Decepticons” theme from the 1985 Transformers movie.)
