While Motoaki Furukawa really shouldn’t require an introduction given his history in game music, we’ve never talked about him on the site, so I thought I’d say a few words. So, in rapid-fire sequence: electric guitar, jazz fusion, founding member of Konami Kukeiha Club, composer of Gradius and Super Contra, performer on Genso Suikoden (although I have no idea what track her performed), remixer, solo works, and VOYAGER. After leaving Konami in 2003 to do freelance work, VOYAGER was created and has gone on to perform at various events including the EXTRA – Hyper Game Music Event. This DVD is a compilation of two of their concerts that were held in 2008.
What makes the DVD even more significant, and an absolute must-have, however, is the fact that it’s the first time the music of VOYAGER has received a wide release. They have no studio albums, and aside from a brief single in 2006 and an appearance on the Hyper Game Music Event EXTRA 2007 The Live Album, there’s nothing out there for fans to enjoy or to even introduce them to the band. If you’re not convinced, go here to see two videos, the first of which features Furukawa introducing the DVD, and the second which introduces the band and some of their music. If you’re not sold on that, you should know that the DVD features “multi-angle support,” a super advanced feature that lets you see the action on stage from different angles! Amazing! It was released on August 25, 2009, and will set you back 7,000 yen, but is definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of his work.
Are you familiar with Motoaki Furukawa and his work with VOYAGER? Are you going to be picking this one up from Japan?

I just noticed that Koichi Namiki (SST Band) also makes a guest guitarist appearance on this DVD.
Hey nice thing. Going put on order.
I notified Kahori about this DVD the moment I found out and she will be special ordering some for overseas fans. The price won’t be cheap at around $115, but I believe seeing Furukawa and Namiki (just found out about this) play “live” is well worth admission.
