While yesterday’s quest to find new music yielded the sweet Kravallsviten EP, I happened to come across another hidden gem of epic proportions that I’ve kept from everyone… until now! Although Perseverance comes to us via the popular Kahvi Collective (which featured Mikael Fyrek last week), I say hidden because the track I want to highlight is tucked away at the tail end of the album. The track is aptly titled “Water Music,” an unassuming name for an unassuming song… but one that has invaded my brain and has set up shop.
Composed by Finnish musician Aleksi Eeben and weighing in at a whopping 18 minutes, “Water Music” is a catchy minimalistic chip tune that is full of hope at times while heavy with despair at others. The main melody is repeated throughout the song with varied bridge sections between verses, exploring various emotions with very few notes. It’s hard to believe I’ve become addicted to something so simple, but I think once you give it a listen, you’ll agree that 18 minutes isn’t long enough to enjoy this track. What do you think? Can simplicity be both beautiful and complex at the same time? Is “Water Music” an epic journey through a spectrum of emotions or am I just crazy?
