Yes, if the newly added entries on VGMdb are legit, Square Enix has two new albums slated for a May 26, 2010 release. The first is the interestingly titled Final Fantasy XIII Original Soundtrack -PLUS-, which would seemingly expand upon the amazing 4-disc soundtrack that was released in January. Some have already taken notice that this naming convention, “-PLUS-,” is similar to the Final Fantasy IX Original Sound -PLUS- album that featured many of that game’s cutscene tracks. Will this one be similar?
Also listed is Chill SQ, which we can only guess is a follow-up to Love SQ, which we reviewed last year. From the name, we figure it will focus on relaxing chillout music rather than the upbeat arrangements we heard in Love SQ. Whatever it is, I’m looking forward to finding out more about it!
What do you make of these new releases? Are you looking forward to one over the other?
UPDATE: So, is this an April Fool’s joke or not? We’ve been on a wild goose hunt all morning thanks to Cedille’s shenanigans, but these look to be real releases. Check out Square Enix’s official FFXIII -PLUS- website and Cedille’s comments for more information.

lol, love the mad mspaint skillz.
Sadly enough, I did it in Photoshop. But yes, I was going for that Paint feel.
Takes a lot of work looking authentically like you put in none. 😉
On topic…meh! I can strangely deal with Falcom’s endless stream of arrangements (some of them were pretty darn out there), but an OST should be just that, and it should be complete. The music’s all there already, so it’s not like they have to arrange it for a later release. So by all means, Squeenix, give us lots of reinterpretations and quirky reshapings, but an ‘Original Sound’ is precisely that. Anything else, such as releasing an incomplete OST (and to call it an OST!) only to reveal a full one later, looks a bit like money-grubbing to me.
Jason, those two entires are April foll jokes.
I hate you, Cedille. (not really).
I think you are extremely gullible.
In case I failed to bring some kinds of humor (I suck at it), it’s legit, because SE’s official shop now lists this.

A short description states it covers additional music from the US/EU version and new arranged tracks from Masashi Hamauzu.
Hey, Jason, I just read your updated article. It’s totally a real upcoming release as shown by the (semi-) official link I posted above or multiple online shops that now started listing this album. Given the influence and the nature of VGMdb, I wouldn’t ever make a joke post there. I apologize for the annoyance caused by my poor humor sense. Thanks for a good article anyway.
@Meji:
True, but I really have no reason to doubt Cedille. He reads Japanese, afterall, and would likely be the first person to find this kind of stuff. AND it is April Fool’s, so it’s easy to be fooled.
Oh….bugger. I take this stuff way too seriously. And here I thought I’d managed to dodge ’em all. Well done. 🙂
Best non-April-Fool’s joke of 2010. You had me fooled TWICE Cedille!
